In Israël was hij medeoprichter van het Zionistisch Forum voor het Sovjet-Jodendom, De vredesbesprekingen zullen het conflict natuurlijk niet echt oplossen, maar het conflict hanteerbaar maken, dat kan natuurlijk wel. He was a member of the Knesset, Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Israel until 18 December 2012, when his resignation, caused by an investigation in which he was charged with fraud and breach of trust, took effect.[2] He is the founder and leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, whose electoral base are the immigrants from the former Soviet Union.[3] Following Lieberman's resignation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stepped in and as of late December 2012 is serving as acting Foreign Minister.[4] Lieberman is currently on trial, and will resume the post of Foreign Minister if acquitted.
